FAQ

  • I've never done yoga before. What do I need to know?

Everyone starts where they start, so keep an open mind, go at your own pace, and avoid comparing yourself to others. Our instructors provide helpful guidance, but you are your best teacher. Pay attention to your body and respect its shape, age, strengths, and weaknesses. Discomfort is worth exploring, but don’t push through any pain, even if you managed it before. Each pose and moment is a fresh experience, and you decide how to handle any challenges. With time and practice, you'll feel more comfortable, confident, and connected through yoga. You've got this!

  • What do I wear for classes?

There is an overwhelming amount of yoga and athleisure clothing available to choose from. However, we recommend you simply wear comfortable and breathable clothes that allow for fluid movement. Prioritize natural fabrics (cotton and hemp) or those that stretch and wick away moisture, ensuring you can fully enjoy your practice without any distractions or limitations.

  • Do I need to bring anything?

Our high quality yoga props are free to use, and we offer complimentary use of our yoga mats and sweat towels for first-time students and members. Others may rent them if they need, but we want to encourage everyone to purchase their own mat if they really want a comfortable practice. If you do use our mats, please put them in the bin outside class for cleaning. Don't forget to bring a water bottle (no glass please)!

  • Which classes are best for beginners?

For a slower pace, try Rooted or Restore, but you’re welcome to join any class that interests you. Our group classes are designed for all experience levels, but please speak with your instructor before class and let them know you're new and/or if you have any injuries, fears, limitations, etc. After class, feel free to follow up your instructor or our staff and let them know how it went. Remember, you’re in full control of your practice. Move at your own pace and listen to your body during class. Your instructor is simply a guide and will offer modifications, and you’re always welcome to enter child’s pose or even savasana if you need to catch your breath.

  • Do I need to be flexible to practice yoga?

Yoga is much more than being flexible or achieving flexibility. It’s perfectly okay if you “can’t touch your toes” right now; you can absolutely still participate in and enjoy our classes. Remember, the more you practice, the more flexible and open your body will become, but it may take time! So, embrace the journey and be patient as you progress towards greater openness and strength.

  • How often should I practice before I experience yoga's benefits?

Results depend on the individual, their biology and goals, as well as their discipline on and off the mat, but many people notice positive effects during and after their first class. We’ve witnessed that those who practice 3-5 times a week experience transformative progress in a variety of physical, mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual ways. Please speak with our staff if you need help setting healthy expectations or if you need any specific support.

  • Can yoga provide cardio or a high intensity workout?

Yes! Many of our classes can be quite intense (just ask any of the active military who frequent our classes), but don’t worry—you have the freedom to choose just how active or relaxed you’d like to be in any given class. Our instructors will offer options and modifications that make poses feel restorative or challenging, ensuring that everyone, regardless of experience or ability, can find what they need during their practice.

  • What does it mean when the teacher says "Vinyasa"?

Vinyasa is a cue to the practitioner to flow through a mindful movement between poses, accompanied by the breath. This is also shorthand reference to a sequence that involves flowing into plank, then chaturanga, lifting up into cobra or updog, and finally into downdog (or child’s pose if you need). Each yogi may modify this movement and/or skip it as they desire. All we ask is for you to connect your breath with your movements, even if it's dropping to child's pose or grabbing a sip of water.

  • How does yoga reduce stress and anxiety or help with depression?

Yoga is a beautiful practice that unites the mind and body through a variety of poses, intentional breathing techniques, and moments of deep relaxation. Engaging in a regular practice creates the conditions that enable you to relax, breathe deeply and more effectively, explore your consciousness, and release lingering mental-emotional tension that may be affecting your overall well-being. Be patient and kind with yourself, and you will soon discover yoga’s transformative power for yourself!

  • Do you offer classes for children?

We do not offer children’s yoga, but our good friends at Just Breathe certainly do!

However, we do allow parents to share their love of yoga with their children if they are over the age of 13 and can respectfully participate without distractions. Please contact the studio to learn more about bringing your child(ren) to a class.

  • Do you offer pre- and post-natal classes?

Yoga is a great way to prepare for childbirth and to heal your body afterwards. While we don't have specific pre- or post-natal group yoga classes, all our classes can support mothers with some important modifications. Please avoid twists and poses that compress the belly. Do not push yourself too hard or ignore any of your body's signals. If unsure, just skip the pose, try another option, or simply focus on your breathing! If you require any special attention, we do offer pre- and post-natal private yoga sessions, breath work sessions, and massages.

  • Is yoga a religion?

Yoga is not a religion. It is a spiritual discipline from India that aims to unify the body, mind, and spirit. While some studios and styles may include religious elements and symbols, yoga itself doesn’t require any specific belief to be effective. All faiths are welcome at our studio, and our philosophy primarily treats yoga as a tool to promote unity, healing, self-reflection, personal development, and building one’s capacity and capability to be of service to all life.

  • Do you offer any discounts or hardship support?

We offer 10% off select yoga and wellness services for military, students, teachers, and first responders. Please be prepared to show proof with the desk staff. If you're experiencing financial hardship, please contact the studio manager to discuss, so you may continue your practice, which we believe will help you commit to restoring balance back into your life.

“Once in the space, I felt the instructor gave me just the right amount of attention to keep me comfortable and feel that she was helpfully engaged in my practice.”
